What is Functional Wellness?
To put it simply, functional wellness is the idea that when we feel better, we do better. This statement has been validated by both mainstream science and my own personal experience. Although feeling your best in its own right is amazing, it’s even more amazing when feeling your best translates into being more present, successful and thriving in your everyday life.
The health and wellness market is currently valued at over 4 trillion dollars. With the plethora of products and services available that claim to make you fitter, younger and healthier, it's difficult to separate health promotion from profit promotion. That's why I'm here!
My goal with natiF. is to create a space that will help you improve your functional health and wellness through discussions with healthcare professionals and wellness experts, the latest scientific literature, and the lived experiences of myself and others.
I decided to start natiF. with three main values in mind:
Accessibility: despite what the wellness market and celebrities tell us, living well doesn’t have to be expensive or out of reach. Instead of promoting luxury boutique wellness products that carry a hefty price tag, I will focus on affordable (and free) ways to look, feel and achieve your best.
Individuality: everyone comes with their own body, background, experiences and personality that’s beautifully unique to them. What works for one person may not work for another, which is why I will never take a one-size-fits-all approach to any topic I discuss. Instead, I will offer a variety of ways to improve your wellness, so you can find the best fit for your unique and authentic self.
Functionality: taking care of our mind, body and spirit are all crucial for achieving optimal health. The individual symptoms or issues we face often have a deeper, more holistic root that brings us back to our own lifestyle choices. Therefore, I believe that the first step towards looking and feeling our best starts from the inside out!

As both a science student and a health-conscious individual, I have always understood the importance of lifestyle on our health. However, only when I made the decision to pursue a career in functional medicine, did I truly understand the difference between health and wellness. I learned that having health means to be free of disease, but the pursuit of wellness is what allows one to feel – and achieve – their ultimate best in mind, body and spirit. Thus, health is the necessary condition, but not sufficient on its own for living a happy and successful life.
When I tell people I have a background in both science and philosophy, they usually look at me funny. However, I consider this education my greatest asset. Not only did I develop a high degree of scientific literacy throughout my science degree, but my experience in philosophy identified some of the weaknesses in our mainstream scientific methodologies; and introduced me to other ways of knowing. I truly believe that there is valuable knowledge to be learned through scientific research, the lived experience of others, and our own introspection. That’s why I want to take a multifaceted approach to wellness and wellness knowledge, that addresses each of the pillars of wellness using varying educational modalities.
